The player’s motto
this past weekend was “Finish what we Started” and that is exactly what they
did. The Kwik Signs 2003 Peewee AA Toros went undefeated throughout the Edge Again Cup and won GOLD!
In their first
game Friday, they faced the defending champion Newmarket Redmen and won
3-1. Later on Friday they played strong defensive hockey
and beat the West Seneca Wings from New York State 5-0.
Saturday they defeated the Georgina Blaze 8-5 and then went on to beat the Greater Toronto Capitals 3-2 with the deciding goal coming 21.36 seconds left in the third period. Both goalies showed the opposing teams that they were a force to be reckoned with.
The semi-final game put them up against the hometown team the Whitby Wildcats. The Toros were rewarded with a decisive 5-1 win.
The final game was a matchup of the only two teams that went through the Whitby Edge tournament undefeated, the Clarington Toros and the Gloucester Rangers. In the 2014/15 season Gloucester squeaked out a 3-2 OT shoot out tournament win over the Toros. With this tough loss still fresh in their minds, the boys went out and played their best game of the season to date. They jumped out to a 1-0 lead and played a very strong opening period. Gloucester pushed back to score the next two goals and took a 2-1 lead into the 3rd period. The Toros tied it up early in the 3rd period and displayed a great deal of sacrifice, passion, determination and teamwork as the game moved into overtime. The Kwik Signs Peewee AA Clarington Toros scored the game winning goal with just over 2 minutes left in the 2nd OT to win the game 3-2 and capture their 2nd gold medal of the season.
The coaching staff is extremely proud of the victory, but are even more pleased with the level of respect that these players are learning to show for the sport of hockey.
GO TOROS GO!!
