U15BB Toros Win Gold in Lake Placid!
There isn't many more beautiful places to win then Lake Placid New York. Our U15BB didn't quite shock the world, but went with a purpose, overcame adversity and left as Can/Am Challenge Cup Lake Placid Nov 25-27 Gold Medal Winners. We needed a complete team effort this weekend, the boys played for each other, digging deep to overcome injuries and illness to stay focused on capturing the teams first championship of the season.

The opening ceremony was a bit of a premonition of sorts as our own Ryan Lee was chosen to light the Olympic fame of the entire competition. However, the Toros started the tournament flat losing to the Hawks of Dix Hills New York 4-0 in the opening game. The loss proved to be a wake up call for the boys and a desire to meet this team again became the fuel needed to feed our flame in Lake Placid.

Day two opened with a skills competition where Dominic Gareau stood tall and showed tremendous athleticism finishing eventually 2nd in the goalie portion of the shootout only allowing one goal out of 12 breakaway attempts. Our shooter Brayden Chiasson displayed some beautiful moves advancing finishing a the second runner-up. The Relay Race was dominated by our Toro representatives Chase Rivest, Brody Glover, Kai MacDonald and Ashton Perez who took the first place award by smashing their competition and previous world record time.

In Game 2 the Toros faced off against the Outlaws of Marlborough, Massachusetts. The Outlaws are still not to sure what hit them as the Toros focused by their previous defeat steamrolled their opponents 7-0. Brady Boyle was a brick wall turning aside every puck sent his way, defenders Zachary Colton who's physical presence intimidated teams all weekend, Simon Van Reenen controlled our end and turned the puck up ice in transition beautifully and rewarded with a rocket goal from the point. Nathan Christenson's tenacious forecheck set the tone for his team, Miller Hope dominated his wing creating turnovers eventually netting two this game.

Game 3 saw the Toros face off with another representative from the Great White North in the talented Humber Valley Sharks of Etobicoke Ontario for a trip to Sundays Final. Heading into the 3rd period down 1-0, the Toros work ethic and territorial dominance was finally too much for the Sharks and scored 4 unanswered goals, led by Nolan Bryant's work in the corners and Davis Saxena's quick feet unbeatable body position and puck moving skills from the back end. The Sharks were able to make it interesting, but in the end the good guys were just too much and the game finish 4-2.

Sundays Final was our rematch against the Hawks. The game began with a flurry of pressure from our Toros and was rewarded with an early lead. After a second goal was disallowed, the game settled into a back and forth battle. The Hawks were able to take a 2-1 lead with two wild deflections that were unstoppable. Lucas Muir was unbeatable on the blue line, and gifted play down the boards off the point was a threat all weekend. Chase MacKay was solid and played his one on ones beautifully and turned the opponents back. Cooper Brown controlled play when on the ice most of the weekend and set up three goals (one disallowed) and the game was tied with seconds left in the second period setting up a nail bitter of a third period. The two teams traded chances all period however no winner was found by either team setting up a 10 minute 3 on 3 Overtime before a possible shootout. The OT was exciting and fast with our Toros getting the edge in scoring chances in the first couple minutes and showing more commitment to defensive responsibilities holding the Hawks at bay. Nearly three minutes into the period Davis Gorham beat his opponent to the puck chipping the puck past his defender breaking away alone on the Hawks net and with a perfect shot sent a bullet off the far post and in sending the Toro faithful and team into a frenzied cerebration as Gold Medal Champions.

Massive congratulations to the U15BB Toros.
