BANTAM AE Takes Silver
In this first tournament of the year the Bantam AE Toros started off slowly, but gained momentum as the tournament went on to reach the finals of the tournament!
Penalties hampered the effort of the team and Toros fell short in the first game against the Orillia Terriers, losing 3-2. Not to be discouraged, Bantam AE came out strong against the Kent Cobras with a decisive 9-1 win. In the third outing of the tournament, Toros kept up the pressure against Erin-Hillsburgh Devils, a team with two straight wins, beating them 7-3. The final game of the round robin was a 7-2 loss for the Toros against the Guelph Gryphons, whose size and speed seemed to outmatch the Toros. Two wins put the Toros into 4th place and secured a spot in the semi finals against the Erin-Hillsburgh Devils. With the Devils in the lead for most of the game, Toros answered back with their own goals and an outstanding effort by Hocking kept the scoring deficit down to one goal. Down 3-2 in the final 26 seconds of the game, two Devils in the penalty box, and Toros pull the goalie for a 6 on 3 charge. GOAL!! With no change in score during the 5-minute OT, Toros head to a shoot out. Taylor SCORES to give the Toros a berth to the finals! In the final match up of the tournament, Toros are up against the Gryphons again. Despite injuries and illnesses, the game remains at 0-0 until late in the 2nd period, with much credit going to Slyumers for a strong effort. Final score is Gryphons 2-0 Toros. GREAT WORK BOYS!!
