This past Saturday afternoon, the
enthusiastic fans at the Garnet B Rickard Arena in Bowmanville got to witness what
is becoming a recurring theme this playoff season: the Clarington Minor Peewee
A Toros turned the tables on yet another team they couldn’t beat in the regular
season, by taking their series versus the Quinte west Hawks 3 games to 1 (or 6 points to 2).
If possible, this series win was even more dramatic than the previous match-up against the Pickering Panthers. For one, in their three prior contests against the Hawks, the Toros had allowed 12 goals against vs only 4 goals for. And for another, even more remarkably, Quinte had suffered only a single loss during the
entire Lakeshore League regular season: this is a great team, filled to the "nines" with fast, talented and disciplined hockey players.
Predictably, the Hawks took the first game of the series 2-1 on home ice. But there was something about how difficult it was for them to win that game, scoring the winner at the very end of the third period. The Toros had put up a fight and, as it turns out, they had plenty left.
In an exemplary effort that will enable our boys to push this story to its next chapter, they went on to win the next three games 3-2, 1-0 and 4-2. All three games were very close, and both teams put on a show of teamwork and determination that this writer hopes has made all of their parents proud.
Now, after a quick team celebration on Sunday, and a rousing pep-talk from Coach Jon Manners, the boys get ready for the next leg: a Quarter Final battle with the Whitby Wildcats Blue.
Stay tuned!
