Toros Surprise in Top Tier Showdown!
The Clarington Atom AE Toros got their motors running early and often in a tilt of titanic proportion versus Peterborough Maroon on Tuesday night. Following a win against Uxbridge on the weekend, the seasoned Toros stepped on home ice with a spring in their stride. They were going to need it, going up against an undefeated Peterborough Maroon team.

The Toros came bursting out of the gate in the first period, possessing the puck for the majority and perfecting the dump and chase. Some really nice shots from the line of L. Guernsey, T. Taylor, and S. Archer got the goalie moving and tired out the opponent. This line ended up being on the ice when R. Viegas grabbed a loose puck, deked the goalie out of the net, and placed it nicely in the side for a goal. The pressure was kept up from L. Storey and T. Oliver, doing some excellent fore-checking and ensuring they didn't lose sight of the puck. It was J. Jessen putting it in though; a big pass from L. Storey and booming point shot from L. Geniole set up a easy rebound for Jessen, making the score 2-0. The Toros were clearly pumped up after this, putting on pressure to ensure this lead lasted to the end of the first. N. Fraser and E. Carey kept on their toes, skating back hard and not allowing a shot on their watch.

It was A. Csizmadia's time to put up a wall in the start of the 2nd period, as Peterborough came out buzzing. One particular save up high was fantastic. Look for him to keep his goals against average down this season. It was a tougher 2nd, as expected, but after completely killing a 5 on 3 penalty kill, Peterborough put in a tough rebound goal to make it 2-1. The game began to get very defensive after this goal; the Toros weren't letting this lead vanish. J. Ward put up the wall in front of Csizmadia and played a phenomenal defensive game. C. Davis was able to get the puck out on some key defensive plays. One play in particular was when Ward tossed the puck up to T. Taylor from deep in the defensive zone. Taylor skated past both defensemen and put a wrister through the Peterborough goalie to make it 3-1 and to end the 2nd period.

The 3rd period saw two battle-hardened teams fight and block their way to no goals produced from either side. The Toros needed their 3rd gear, and produced. N. Hibbard and G. Antaya stepped up on their respective lines, back-checking and lifting sticks when the team needed it the most. L. Guernsey came close to burying a rebound opportunity, thanks in part to S. Archer making some excellent plays in the defensive zone to break the puck loose. L. Storey played an excellent possession game in the offensive zone in the final minutes. A few more excellent saves from Csizmadia, and the Toros came out with two points and a win against a tough team.

Next is an away-away double-header vs. Oshawa and Belleville. Stay healthy Toros! Drink lots of water!
